Hull

  • Hull’s burgeoning street art scene owes much to the actions of Banksy, who arrived one night in January 2018 and left his mark on the city’s disused Scott Street bridge. Whilst the Banksy itself is now behind a protective cover and almost as difficult to see in sunlight as it is to photograph, its legacy is the wonderful Bankside Gallery which has transformed Bank Side and Wincolmlee into a sea of colour by securing permission walls for local artists to paint. A number of the works featured here were painted as part of the Preston Road Takeover organised by Bankside Gallery - at the beginning of April 2019, over 100 street artists descended upon the Preston Road estate in Hull (which used to be the most deprived estate in the city) to paint 22 houses that were scheduled for demolition, with quite beautiful results.

The photo above is not actually one of my own, but has kindly been provided for inclusion by the artist.
